WASN'T BORN TO FOLLOW
Gerry Goffin & Carole King
Screen Gems/EMI Music

Oh I'd rather go and journey
Where the diamond crescent's glowing
and run across the valley
Beneath the sacred mountain
And wander through the forest
Where the trees have leaves of prisms
And break the light in colors
That no one knows the names of

And when it's time I'll go and wait
Beside a legendary fountain
Till I see your form reflected
In its clear and jeweled waters
And if you think I'm ready
You may lead me to the chasm
Where the rivers of our vision
Flow into one another

I will want to dive beneath
The white cascading waters
She may beg, she may plead
She may argue with her logic
And then mention all the things I learned
That really have no value
In the end she will surely know
I wasn't born to follow

 PILGRIM'S PROGRESS
Matthew Fisher & Keith Reid
TRO-Andover/Black Caviar Music

I sat me down to write a simple story
which maybe in the end became a song
In trying to find the words which might begin it
I found these were the thoughts I brought along

At first I took my weight to be an anchor
and gathered up my fears to guide me round
but then I clearly saw my own delusion
and found my struggles further bogged me down

In starting out I thought to go exploring
and set my foot upon the nearest road
In vain I looked to find the promised turning
but only saw how far I was from home

In searching I forsook the paths of learning
and sought instead to find some pirate's gold
In fighting I did hurt those dearest to me
and still no hidden truths could I unfold

I sat me down to write a simple story
which maybe in the end became a song
The words have all been writ by one before me
We're taking turns in trying to pass them on
Oh, we're taking turns in trying to pass them on

I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE
Peter Anders, Ritchie Cordell & Rick Bellaire
ABCD Music

I will find a way to reach you if it takes for evermore
I will look in every nook and cranny 'til I reach your door

I have set a course to find you and I'll dock at every shore
I've a need to do what leads me to the love I'm living for

I know you're out there somewhere without me
I know you're out there somewhere
I know you're out there somewhere

Maybe somewhere I've looked, but I just couldn't see
And I hope with all my heart you're not hiding from me

I would give my life to please you, I would love you to the core
In my heart and soul I've got to hold the one that I adore

 PRETEND
Rick Bellaire, John Dunn & Carleen Machado
Mederick Music

I look in your eyes, you just turn away
When I try to talk to you, you have nothing to say
You don't want to be here, you've made that perfectly clear
But, baby, just for tonight, can't we make everything all right?

Love me tonight the way I love you
Just hold me tight the way you used to
It's over I know, we've reached the end
But couldn't we, just for tonight, pretend

I should turn away before you see me cry
but I have one more thing to say before you say goodbye
You don't want to be here, you've made that perfectly clear
But, baby, just for tonight, can't we make everything all right?

Pretend your love is real though it's only make believe
Pretend just one more time for me before you leave

 I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT
Larry Lee Clark, Rick Bellaire, John Dunn & Carleen Machado
Mederick Music

There's a million stars in the sky tonight, I watch one fall, a streak of light
They say billions more are out of sight, but I don't know about that

All I know is when you smile, it brightens up my day
All I know is when we kiss, it takes my breath away
All I know is when I'm near you, my heart starts beating fast
They may say this love won't last, but I don't know about that

Canvas covered in lines and swirls sold as scenes of a beautiful world
They say a picture paints a thousand words, but I don't know about that

I always played around at love like it was just a game
Win or lose it never mattered, but with you, it ain't the same

I wonder who decides if we live or die, where we wind up after the last goodbye
They say it all comes down to the man on high, but I don't know about that

 WITHOUT YOU TONIGHT
Jeff Olson, Rick Bellaire & John Dunn
Wire & Woodworks/Mederick Music

Luck wasn't with me tonight
Left me here wishing and hoping for morning's first light
Lying alone in our bed
I relived every moment and word that you said
So, I keep praying morning will make it all right
But I'm restless without you tonight

Morning dove's singing her song
Telling me hold on, be strong, I'll guide you along
Wish she could fly me away
Make me believe in tomorrow, forget yesterday
Oh, I keep praying a new day is coming in sight
But I'm restless without you tonight

One day they say the hurt fades away
Time has the power to cure
So I hope and pray that there'll come a day
I won't cry for you anymore

Nobody mentions you name
But I hear voices, in whispers, they say what a shame
Dragging myself through the day
Counting the hours and minutes since you went away
And I keep praying I'll have the will left to fight
But I'm restless without you tonight
So restless without you tonight

 WISHING WELL
Paul Rogers, Simon Kirke, Tetsu Yamauchi, Rabbit Bundrick & Paul Kossoff
Ackee Music/Jad Cayman Music

Take off your hat kick off your shoes,
I know you ain't going anywhere.
Run 'round the town singing your blues
I know you ain't going anywhere.
You have always been a good friend of mine
but you're always saying farewell
and the only time that you're satisfied
is with your feet in the wishing well.

Throw down your gun you might shoot yourself
or is that what you are tryin' to do,
Put up a fight you believe to be right
and someday the sun will shine through.
You have always got something to hide
something you just can't tell
and the only time that you are satisfied
is with your feet in the wishing well

But I know what you're wishing for
Love and a peaceful world
Yeah, love and a peaceful world
Love and a peaceful world

 I DON'T KNOW HOW
Jeff Olson & Rick Bellaire
Wire & Woodworks/Mederick Music

The more I try to reach you, the more you slip away
The more that I try to asking you why, the less you have to say
I need to break the silence, but don't know where to start
I'm searching for ways, a look or the phrase to reach inside your heart

'Cause I can't just let you go
And I've tried to tell you so
But I don't know how, I don't know how
No, I don't know how, if you don't know now

From the day that I first met you I knew you'd always be
The one special girl to share in my world, you are my destiny
But life can make you crazy and it's hard to keep your sight
And lately me dear I'm starting to fear you'll vanish in the night

Try as I may, the words I say just seem to start a fight
But I'll count to ten and start in again until I get it right

I tried to write a letter, but the the words came out all wrong
So all i can do to reach out to you is sing this simple song
And hop that there's an ember from a long-forgotten fire
And I'll find a spark, a light in the dark to rekindle your desire

 THIS LOVE I HIDE
Vincent Pasternak
Pastime Music

I have often admired you from afar
You don't know how you appear to me
You're a wishing star that's caught in a cloud
Shining down for all to see
But I know how the distance between us now
Is far too great and much too wide
to show you this love I hide

Candle light and the moon is bright
But there's nobody at my table
I can't seem to find someone who won't mind
My own quiet ways
Well, I've been searching for him day after day

Strangers are like icicles
They're so pretty when they glisten
But the wind comes along and tomorrow they're gone
Like a song in the sky you can hear them if you listen

 TEXAS TONIGHT
Jeff Olson, Donna Anthony-Olson & Rick Bellaire
Wire & Woodworks/Mederick Music

I was born a wanna-be cowboy In the city of Chester, P.A.
Where Bill Haley hopped on his comet, and the skies are all cloudy all day
I listened to Gene Autry records, over and over each day
My Mom probably wanted to shoot me, or wished I would just ride away

I wish I was born down in Texas
Where the weather is sunny and bright
and there's nothing wrong with an old cowboy song
In Texas, they'd treat me alright
But I'm a long way from Texas tonight

The kids all made fun of my six guns, they laughed at my ten gallon hat
They treated me like I was crazy, but I didn't care about that
'Cause I was a boy with a mission, gonna meet up with Hop-A-Long soon
Drink sasparilla, eat flapjacks and beans, and sleep 'neath that ol' Texas Moon

One Sunday morning, without any warning, they took all my treasures away
Gave me a Phillies hat, a glove and a baseball hat, told me to go out and play

Later tonight, like a Comet in flight
I'll visit that old Texas sky
From my childhood dreams, where I'll meet up with Gene
And I'll hop on my pony and ride

 FOR ORDINARY MEN
Jeff Olson, Rick Bellaire & John Dunn
Wire & Woodworks/Mederick Music

I was having a few, thinking of you, sitting all alone
Of happier days and all of the ways you made this house a home
No, I never believed I'd ever by lonely again
But, happily ever after wasn't meant for ordinary men

We tried to rely on love to get by, but times were tough
We started to fight, money was tight, love was not enough
I tried to hold on but knew you were gone there and then
No, happily ever after wasn't meant for ordinary men

I've been working real heard, but what have I got to show
Fortune and fame are things I'll never know
All I can do is dream of what might have been
And try to drown my sorrow until I got to work again

So I wander around the streets of this town hoping I can find
A pretty young face to put in the place of the space you left behind
But i know in my heart what I should have known way back when
Happily ever after wasn't meant for ordinary men

 OVER YOU
Jeff Olson & Rick Bellaire
Wire & Woodworks/Mederick Music

I'm the one who made you laugh, you're the one who made me cry
I'm the one who stuck it out, you're the one who said goodbye
Now you're coming 'round again, say you want to start anew
I don't want to hear it, babe, I've gotten over you

I once thought that love could win you over
If I gave you all my love, you would stick around
Now I know that love can't cure a rover
Nothing I can say or do could ever tie y'down

Some men do, and some men don't, and some you just can't tell
Some men will, and some men won't, and some it's just as well
I ain't into playing games, ain't looking for a deal
Got to find the kind of man can show me love is real

 ALL THEY NEEDED WAS LUCK
Peter Anders
Anchor Music

She played the dulcimer, he played guitar
We thought together that they would go far
She could write poetry, he'd find the tune
Together their music would light up the room

All they needed was luck, all they needed was luck
Together their music would light up the room, all they needed was luck

They packed up everything and followed a star
They sang for their suppers and slept in the car
There would be better days, they just needed time
He'd find the music and she'd find the rhyme

All they needed was luck, all they needed was luck
Together their music would light up the room, all they needed was luck

They traveled everywhere through thick and through thin
From Denver to Delaware and back home again
Acclaimed and applauded, but Lord it gets rough
When you're never rewarded enough and all you needed was luck

Fridays and Saturdays they still come around
At open mics everywhere all over town
The smaller the coffeehouse, the bigger the crowd
They sing and they play, but they're crying out loud

All they needed was luck, all they needed was luck
Together their music would light up the room, all they needed was luck
All they needed was luck

 HEAD ON HOME
Vincent Pasternak & Rick Bellaire
Pastime Music/Mederick Music

If there's no sailing over the rainbow
If the mountains are too high to climb
If the valley's so wide you can't get to the other side
It's time to give up and go home

If you pathway to freedom is choked up with weeds
If your boots are too painful to wear
There's a lesson to learn, let some stones go unturned
It's time to give up and go home

April showers may bring floods
And bluebirds pine like mourning doves
Dreams have a way of fading into dust
The dawn may rise all rosy-fingered
But it'll burn you if you linger
And heaven knows how life would get along without your

So head on home, if you can't go the distance
Head on home, find the path of least resistance
Trade the cold hard wilderness for some warmth and tenderness
Take the road that time and tide have shown
It's time to turn around and head on home

When building castles in the air
Remember sometimes love ain't fair
Hearts have a way of turning into stone
Misfortune smiles upon us all
Especially the weak and small
Gather rosebuds while ye can for winter's coming

If your muscles are tired and trembling
If you road is too long for the ride
If your sorrow's got you down, pack it in, stop and turn around
It's time to give up and go home

Head on home, home ain't where the heart lies
Head on home, it's where it tells the truth
Leave behind your emptiness with the wind that's blowing west
Listen now to what you've always known
It's time to turn around and head on home
Just give it up and wander back home
